Position Summary

The Advancement Associate’s primary responsibility is to support the Advancement department in meeting its fundraising goals through prospect research, review and list management, and through thoughtful, compelling grant reporting for all audiences including the State of Ohio, national foundations and federal agencies, local foundations, and other audiences.

Essential Job Functions

  • 40% - Grant Reporting and Writing

Write grant reports as needed, under the direction of the Manager and the Senior Partner of Advancement, which accurately report JumpStart’s activities and outcomes to the grantor. Write with accuracy and in a compelling way with an eye toward reporting performance while building trust, credibility, and strength in the relationship between JumpStart and the grantor.

Work with Finance, IT, and other departments as necessary in order to gather the metrics necessary for accurate grant reporting. Take the initiative necessary to lead the organization in the activities and input needed, across various members in the organization, in writing accurate and compelling grant reports which meet the needs of our funders.

Write grant proposals as needed to maximize funds raised for JumpStart.

  • 30% - Prospect Management

Conduct prospect research on top prospects using iWave and other on-line tools.

Manage lists of corporate, foundation, highly qualified individuals and wealth managers through a moves-management system, keeping the CEO, President and Advancement team apprised of suitable actions and timely next steps.

  • 20% - Salesforce Management

Record all gifts as required by our systems in order to maintain accuracy and timely recognition of gifts. Manage gift reporting through Salesforce reports.

Update Salesforce regularly so development pipeline communication materials and donor profiles are effective and accurate.

Create and manage Salesforce reports to maximize system-wide knowledge of prospects and tracking of activities

  • 10% Gift Receipt/Acknowledgement/Recognition

Send gift recognition communication within 24 hours of the receipt of the gift.

Manage donor listings and logos on the website, lobby and all potential areas where donor recognition can have an immediate and a lasting impact.

Lead the organization, including senior managers in the organization, in identifying and sending any additional gift recognition and thanks as might be required and appropriate for the relationship.

Work to identify any relationships for which the final gift has been received and which represent a new pipeline opportunity for an additional ask.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Education, Training and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree.

2+ years of progressive experience in a position with a similar level of responsibility.

Knowledge and experience in grant writing and reporting.

Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and see them through to completion with minimal supervision

Must be able to take initiative and leadership, and confidence in managing more senior level people. Must be able to pull together busy people and use their time wisely while accomplishing objectives needed.

Must be punctual, responsive to requests, and able to meet deadlines.

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Salesforce and SharePoint. Must also be comfortable using chat applications, email, phone and video conferencing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Must take initiative; cannot wait to be told what to do. This person must be comfortable initiating action and being persistent about resolving issues, questions, or challenges.
