Recap: Role of the Board & Nonprofit Organization Fair
Engage! Cleveland and BVU joined forces to present the “YP Road to Nonprofit Leadership”: a two-part event aimed at teaching young professionals what it means to be a volunteer, committee member, and board member. Through “Role of the Board” training and a nonprofit organizational fair, YPs were granted the unique opportunity to not only learn about this involvement, but were also given a chance to network with nonprofitsfirst hand. On July 16, E!C and BVU presented a seminar on Role of the Board for Young Professionals. Attendees gathered at the Engage! Cleveland offices for an evening to learn about how to become more involved in the Greater Cleveland nonprofit community. The seminar considered the challenges and trends facing nonprofits today, discussed board and committee service as well as opportunities with a young professionals’ group or associate board, and reviewed the roles and responsibilities of each. The event concluded with a Q&A panel discussion about individual experiences with nonprofit boards and the impact that young professionals can make within an organization.
On July 23, the two organizations sponsored a Nonprofit Organization Fair at the 5th Street Arcades. Cleveland young professionals had an opportunity to meet 17 local nonprofit organizations seeking YPs for their associate boards and boards of directors. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments while they networked, and received a booklet that showcased all of the attending nonprofits and the expertise they were seeking.
