Engage! Cleveland Rising Star: Christin Miller

YP- Christin MilerBy: Annie Morino

Young professionals are no strangers to the words “uncharted territory.” Taking new jobs, exploring new cities, making new friends—leaps of faith are practically listed in each job description. Christin Miller, Engage! Cleveland’s Rising Star, is our favorite kind of adventurer. Christin took a leap when she moved to Cleveland from Clemmons, North Carolina, three and a half years ago because she “wanted to experience something new,” and Cleveland was “out of her comfort zone.”

While she may have exchanged her sunglasses and flip flops for a winter coat and galoshes, Christin’s willingness to learn, her creativity and her love of macaroni and cheese have not changed throughout her lifetime. Luckily for her, Cleveland is a good place to exercise all three! When we asked Christin about her experience in town so far, she said that she was pleasantly surprised to learn about the opportunities to get involved with the city’s revitalization. “When I moved to Cleveland,” she said,

“I didn’t think that there was going to be such a high caliber of opportunities for young professionals. It is encouraging to live in a city that embraces the enthusiasm and new ideas of the millennial generation, and actively creates opportunities for us to be involved in causes/initiatives that we are passionate about. Cleveland is undergoing a tremendous amount of redevelopment and growth. I love that as a young professional I have a voice and am able to contribute to Cleveland’s revival.”

In traditional Rising Star fashion, Christin has jumped right in. During the workday, she puts her creativity to work as the Media Strategist at Studiothink, a culture development and brand management firm.  Christin also became involved in Cleveland's Professional 20/30's club, where she served as their Membership Director.

We believe this city is very lucky to have Christin on board, working on behalf of all of our young professionals, but the Rising Star might beg to differ on the luck part. One lesson she wishes she would have learned earlier is that “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” Regardless, we are happy she took a chance on Cleveland and has joined the leagues of young professionals who share her passion. It takes a special kind of person to see the glass half-full like Christin Miller does, but we think her favorite quote, found in Frank Baum’s The Land of Oz, sums up why she deserves the title of an Engage! Cleveland Rising Star.

"That proves you are unusual,” returned the Scarecrow, “and I am convinced that the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and they live and die unnoticed.”
