E!C's Rising Star: Rachel Ciomcia
By: Samantha Wright
Rachel is a lifelong Cleveland resident who works at the Cleveland Leadership Center as the Director of Cleveland Bridge Builders (CBB) and Alumni Programs. Rachel is a proud Class of 2010 alumni of the CBB program. Outside of her day job, Rachel contributes her young professional (YP) insight as a board member at the Hitchcock Center for Women. When asked what she loves about being a YP in Cleveland, Rachel answered, “Cleveland provides many opportunities for young professionals to be involved in the community- the leaders of the city are so open to meeting with YPs and sharing their experiences.”
Rachel is a big fan of the Cleveland craft beer scene and loves checking out the breweries around town. As self-proclaimed beer connoisseurs, Rachel and her husband enjoy travelling to breweries in Cleveland and around the country. Rachel describes the Great American Beer Festival in Denver as one of their favorite trips.
As a big fan of the Gordon Square Arts District, one of Rachel’s favorite things to do is have dinner at Spice Kitchen and Bar followed by dessert at Sweet Moses- some of the best food in town according to Rachel!
If Rachel could change one thing about Cleveland she said it would be the “negativity among its residents!” She feels that “people who still consider their own hometown the ‘Mistake by the Lake’ haven’t taken the time to learn about the exciting and fun developments across the city, as well as the positive steps leadership has taken to make it a great place to live.” Rachel loves talking with Clevelanders about their own city and highlighting the good!
All in all, Rachel considers Cleveland to be a “wonderful town to learn from those who have come before us.” She believes, “there is so much development among the neighborhoods that provide unique and fun experiences to be had regardless of one’s interests.”
