Cleveland’s long-anticipated summer months are now upon us. As we all know, it is nearly impossible to get out of town without months of planning, but that does not mean we do not all deserve to soak up some sun. Luckily for us, we do not have to go far to stick our toes in the water and relax on sandy beaches. Although Northern Ohio is no Caribbean, Lake Erie is a hidden gem in itself with countless waterfront getaways waiting to be enjoyed.

Edgewater Park

6500 Cleveland Memorial Shoreway

Cleveland, Oh 44102

Located just West of Downtown Cleveland, Edgewater Park is a paradise for anyone looking for some summer fun. This beach boasts 9000 feet of Lake Erie shoreline, and not only welcomes, but encourages, swimming, boating, fishing, dogs and more. Every Thursday, from May 31 to August 2, Edgewater Park hosts Edgewater Live, an event with live music, numerous food trucks and lots of fun. If you are looking for a getaway without getting away, make sure to head over to Edgewater Park for one of their many events, or to simply enjoy a day in the sun.

Huntington Reservation

28728 Wolf Picnic Area Drive

Bay Village, Oh 44140

Huntington Reservation is a nature lover’s retreat. Not only is this park a secluded spot to catch some incredible Lake Erie views, but includes three miles of walking trails that will take a visitor through every environment from beach to forest to meadow. If you are lucky, you will get a peek at some of the extensive wildlife that roams the area. Throughout the summer, Huntington hosts various events such as hikes and educational opportunities that will bring attendees closer to nature and everything that makes NEO beautiful.

Headlands Beach State Park

9601 Headlands Road

Mentor, OH 44060

If you have never visited Headlands Beach State Park before, you are going to want to check it out. As the largest natural-sand beach in the state of Ohio, the park has a mile of sand just waiting to be flooded with swimmers, sunbathers and picnickers. Headlands is also a hot spot for fishing and walking due to its plethora of wildlife. On your way out, be sure to stop by Scooter’s World Famous Dawg House for a yummy hot dog, a mountain of fries and some ice cream. Definitely add Headlands to your summer bucket list this year.

Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park

301 Huntington Beach Drive

Fairport Harbor, OH 44077

Located right around the corner from Headlands Beach State Park, the historic Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Lighthouse signals the separation of the two sandy spots. Known for more than just a place to catch some rays, Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park has loads of activities for beach-goers of any age including: paddleboard and kayak rentals, swimming, a playground, volleyball court and more. The beach is also handicapped friendly thanks to a boardwalk that allows those in wheelchairs to move freely along the sand. If you are headed over to Fairport, be sure to get there early because this is one hot summer spot.
