A message from our president: Reviewing the first half of 2019
It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through 2019. After the rainy spring, summer showed up just in time for our largest event of the year, Cleveland Young Professionals Week. I’ll admit; I am still on Cloud 9 just a bit, but finally able to truly reflect on what an amazing first half we’ve had.
Welcoming some new faces and members to our team!
To start, we have had some awesome changes to our team. We welcomed Cheyenne Meek as our new events and marketing assistant. Her presence was immediately felt with our social media followers taking note.
Our programs assistant Megan welcomed a little one into the world in May and while we were sad to not have her with us for a few months, we were happy to welcome Jane Medoro in her stead. Jane came in with a rich background in events and marketing and added greatly to our team. Last, but certainly not least, through a partnership with Tri-C, we were able to welcome Carolyn Skubon as our events and marketing intern. Carolyn hit the ground running and was immediately consumed with YP Week and our social media.
In addition to our staff, we welcomed some new faces to our Board and Leadership Council. Gary Shamis, one of E!C’s founders, took over as Board Chair effective July 1. His passion to our mission is second to none. We also added an additional Vice Chair, David Toth.
Our Leadership Council grew in size as we welcomed a number of members, and I encourage you to check out all of these amazing individuals here. They serve as the eyes and ears of the young professional community and ambassadors of our work. Their passion and commitment to our mission is unparalleled and I cannot thank them enough...all 89 of them!
That brings me to my next great update, Engage! Cleveland has 72 employer members who are all passionate about making both their workplaces and the Cleveland community better.
Engage recently retained a strategic planning consultant to assist us in planning for the future. That process has been fruitful and will wrap up by the end of summer.
As if all of that isn’t enough for our small, but mighty staff, we are in the middle of our second year of running our new signature events. Our first three events were nothing short of amazing.
Our 6th Annual Lunch with Leaders event in February sold out with 174 attendees and received rave reviews. This event helps to connect young professionals and business leaders in an intimate way and has become a favorite.
Our 2nd Annual Next Generation of Women program moved to a new venue at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and brought in nearly 300 attendees, almost selling out and growing attendance by double digits. Our attendees had such wonderful things to say about the women that they learned from.
Our 6th Annual Cleveland Young Professionals Week was a smashing success with 36 events hosted across the greater Cleveland area...the most we have ever done! We sold 2,152 tickets and a terrific time was had by all. Many of the events sold out...quickly!
What’s in store for the remainder of this year?
For the second half of 2019, we will be having our State of the Young Professional Community on September 12 where we will share information from our survey (thanks to everyone who shared their voice from May through July) about what young professionals in the greater Cleveland area want in terms of a place to live, work and get civically involved.
We also made some changes to our Professional Development Week, transitioning from 16 sessions across five days to three half days with longer sessions. We are excited to make these changes and ready to learn some new skills and knowledge from experts in our region.
I am excited to see what the second half of 2019 has in store for E!C, and what future years will bring as well. Whether you follow along via our newsletter, engage with our social media or join us at one (or all) of our five signature events, we’re so grateful for your support along the way. You help us continue to advance our mission of making Cleveland a lasting home for the next generation. On to the second half of 2019…here we go!
