2015 Engage! Cleveland Recap

We have had an amazing year at Engage! Cleveland. With the city growing and our young professional life teeming, it’s obvious that EC had a terrific 2015 and that we have even more in store for 2016.

Before we get to that, we want to recap what went on in 2015. It was such an exciting year with new developments, partnerships, and a Cleveland YP Week for the books! We hosted or partnered in over 29 events this year (not including the 39 events at CLE YP Week alone!) and met lots of new faces and experienced new things in Cleveland.

Here is a timeline of some of major milestones and awesome events:

January

We welcomed our new intern Abbey Geib, a graduate student at Kent State studying public relations, to our team.

February

2/20: All had fun at our Board and Committee outing at the Lake Erie Monsters Game.

March

3/3: We announced our presenting sponsor, KeyBank for our 2nd Annual CLE YP Week (special thanks to them!)

3/19: Partner Event: "Let's Talk about Injustice: A Community Conversation" featuring Bryan A. Stevenson.

3/19-3/20: Partner Event: Bread and Butter film at Cleveland International Film Festival

3/21: Cavs leadership talked to over 70 YPs who then watched the game with Engage! Cleveland

April

4/6: Partner Event: Engage! Cleveland was given 100 free tickets to the Cleveland Indians Opening Night Watch Party at ‘The Corner.’ We invited all of the YP community to take up on our offer of free tickets and they sold out in a flash!

4/11: Partner Event: Yuri’s Night Space Party at the Great Lakes Science Center was a huge hit with dancing, drinks, food and an open museum. Our committee members helped attendees create crafts at the make and take tables.

4/29: Partner Event: Silver Spoon Awards – we offered YPs discounted tickets to one of the most awesome foodie events of the year. Cleveland’s top restaurants took center stage sharing bite size delights from their restaurants.

May

We were so excited to have our new Engage! Cleveland website up and running with a newer and younger design. The good reviews were pouring in and we were happy that YPs were happy with the new site. We hope you utilize to connect to all of the great things happening in Cleveland

5/20: Engage@The City Club Speaker Series with Stewart Kohl, who spoke to YPs about “Finding their Passion”. He shared his story about starting the Velsano bike ride.

5/23: Partner Event: Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland’s Silent Disco was a hit with people dancing along to some terrific tunes. And you know EC, can’t turn away from a silent disco.

June

6/1-6/7: Engage! Cleveland’s 2nd Annual CLE YP Week took place with 39 events and over 2,250 participants going all over Cleveland to work out, listen to panel discussions, and learn from area professionals. And have fun experiencing the city, we all love.

6/5: Partner Event: TedxCLE was added to our CLE YP Week calendar and we even hosted our own YP view party at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

6/13: Partner Event: Volunteering at World Beer Festival to raise money for our work. Over 100 hundred YPs assisted EC by setting up and pouring beer to raise money for our work.

6/24: Partner Event: #ChooseCLE: Reasons to love being a YP in Cleveland. Our committee member Simone moderated a panel of YPs who shared their storied with college interns.

July

7/4: Partner Event: Red, White & Brew Music Festival at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. EC partnered on this awesome event to offer YPs discounted tickets and 62 participated.

7/16: Partner Event: #ChooseCLE: Career & Networking Expo

  • Partners: Global Cleveland, iCleveland, Summer on the Cuyahoga, Jewish Federation of Cleveland, NEO Intern, Flashstarts, and Cleveland Hillel

7/23: Partner Event: Crain’s Women of Note Summit & Awards was a terrific primarily female dominated event that included our President, Ashley, as a speaker as well as had Board Member, SueAnn, as a facilitator. EC also was able to share a YP discount code.

7/25: Partner Event: Cleveland Scene’s Ale Fest was a great event and we had discounted tickets too.

August

8/5: The Collaboration Council, the consortium of our young professional organizations, met at Hofbrauhaus to discuss new ideas for the future of Cleveland’s young professional community.

8/8: E!C offered discounted tickets for YPs to the Cleveland Gladiators Arena Football Game. It was a family affair and great football for everyone whothat attended.

8/13: Engage! Cleveland’s 6th Annual Summer MIX was a blast at Innova Living in University Circle with over 220 YPs in attendance. We had a rooftop, live music, dogs prancing around, and our favorite DJ Garrett spinning some tunes.

8/16: Harness Cycle hosted EC’s committee and board members as well as E!C YPOs to a 45 minute ride with EC committee member Andria as our instructor.

8/19: Behind the Scenes Tour, Tasting & Panel at PizzaFire was outstanding with over 80 YPs in attendance. The panel was great, the tour was fantastic and the pizza…well… it was delicious!

8/27: We hit 10,000 followers on Twitter!

September

We hit over 5,000 likes on Facebook!

9/12: Partner Event: Rock the Core Cider Festival made its way to Cleveland for an awesome cider and beer festival on the water. The weather wasn’t ideal, but we had a great time pouring and offering discounted tickets.

October

10/2: Partner Event: 9th Annual Rollin’ on the River is a casino themed event that we partner on to provide discounted tickets.

10/10: We welcomed our new officers: Chair Ira Kaplan, Vice Chair Lauren Rudman, Treasurer Chad Kunkle, and Secretary SueAnn Naso

10/16: Partner Event: Best of Cleveland Party is one of our favorite events of the year and we offer YPs greatly discounted tickets.

10/24: Engage! Cleveland’s Young Professional Workshop featured 4 tracks for professional development in areas such as member engagement, getting involved in YPOs, and managing boards.

10/28: Partner Event: Wine & Design YP Night where we painted the beautiful CLE skyline.

November

11/23: Cleveland Cavaliers Game with Engage! Cleveland was an exciting night. We talked with Len Komoroski, CEO of the Cavs and then watch Cleveland play against the Orlando Magic.

December

12/15: Engage! Cleveland’s 6th Annual Holiday MIX featured food, drinks, arcade games and bowling at The Corner Ally Uptown in University Circle.
